Scrab, Anyone?

Scrab, Anyone?

After winning at Scrabble last night, (gloat, gloat, gloat) I sat around and talked to some old friends from High School. Though one was a guy I dated for a very short time in the early part of my freshman year, all of them were from a very different crowd than I was used to.

It was interesting. We had this wonderful time talking about our alternate realities and how those realities sometimes collided. We laughed and gaped in humbled awe at the things done that neither took our lives nor landed us in jail- well, most of us, anyway.

We were this strange mix of people who either skated our way through High School, wasting brain cells with each new intoxicant or gnarly ramp or naive, little nerds who hid from experiences in books and academic approval. We talked about how, strangely enough, my academic crowd seemed to experience more peer pressure than those living on the wilder side. We talked about passing kisses and broken hearts. We talked. And we watched the tiniest of facial expressions and listened as vocal inflections revealed our secret curiosities and slight envy.

We talked about a boy who was not only one of their best and wildest of friends but who was also the giver of my very first kiss. We talked about the questions and theories surrounding his death (Lost at a game of Russian Roulette) and how he lived his life. We laughed at their crazy antics and about his simultaneous interest in a nerdy little girl who couldn't have been bad enough to be with him and for whom he couldn't be good.

And we, the good kids and the bad seeds, sat and played Scrabble on a boring Monday night. I think I've finally found something other than my family that could make me miss this town.
